Using Your Online Presence for Bad

Most days I am pretty proud to be a digital marketer and and have an online presence; even if it is comparatively small compared to the individuals I plan to discuss in this post. As a woman in leadership for over 20+ years now and a strategist to some of the nation's best loved brands in that 20 year time frame, I have always attempted to use my influence as a woman, leader, marketer - digital and traditional - for good. Today I witnessed a really ugly version of someone us

Creating Magical Customer Experiences - a lesson from Walt Disney and the Mouse

I just read a great post on LinkedIn from Gregory Ciotti at HelpScout about Walt Disney and how Disneyworld works to create magical customer experiences for their guests. (see bottom of post for full link to the story). The most compelling point of this story is to FOCUS on the experience from the CLIENT PERSPECTIVE. Wow. Sounds commonplace; almost routine. Certainly over-stated in SO many sales, marketing, brand or industry perspectives - but RARELY EXECUTED WELL. Yes,

Just Do It. A Quick Read on Initiative

I love this saying. Although it is meant to be humorous - I relate to it in its entirety and d think there is a great message to all of us in its levity. I say this is my "Brand Essence" because at my core - I am a doer. I have observed many individuals, men and women, make the mistake of waiting for something better instead of taking the initiative to make things better for themselves. Seth Godin said in Poke the Box, "“Today, not starting is far, far worse than being wron

Tapping into your Leadership Potential - Key Attributes of Great Women Leaders

There are great women leaders everywhere and I have had the opportunity of working with some amazing women leaders and observing their behavior over the last several years. There are a few key attributes that stand out to me in some of the more amazing women leaders I know. 1) Be Fearless. That doesn't mean have no fear. What it means is have faith in yourself and perservere. When others say you can't do it, do it anyway. Don't give up Have tenacity. That equals stayin

My Thoughts on the Fast Company Article on the Demise of Women CEOs

I just finished reading Fast Company's article on the demise of the career life expectancy of Women CEOs (see article at http://www.fastcompany.com/3030088/bottom-line/why-women-ceos-are-more-likely-to-be-forced-out) written by Stephanie Vozza. There are a lot of statistics cited in the article and some powerful women in business referenced such as Carly Fiorina (former HP CEO and Mary Barra (CEO - General Motors) . I'm fairly confident this article will spark conversation

The Power of Positive Thinking and a Smile - a lesson from a Five Year Old

My five year old son, Jon Kelly, got his first pair of glasses today. While we had noticed that he was standing a little too close to the TV while watching it lately and holding things up a little closer to try to read them, I had hoped that it was just an active boy bouncing around - not an optical challenge to be addressed. However, our trip to the eye doctor this morning confirmed our suspicions and Jon Kelly was deemed farsighted and in need of glasses.I learned two thing

    A gift from my team....priceless!

I received a gift from my Witt Team. It was to commemorate the launch of our 2014 brand re-design and our 2014 catalog. For once, I was speechless! The gift was simple - a printed placard in a simple desk frame. But the message was priceless. The quote was from a great American hero, General Douglas MacArthur, touted as one of the great military leaders of our time. The message from my team was clear. The months we have spent together - shoulder to shoulder - laboring through
